What is Ushta?

We can already be permanently happy if we want to.
There are drugs that make us permanently happy.
Still we don't take those pills. This reveals that deep down happiness is not what we are after, as humans or as Zoroastrians.
I would say that what we strive for is a sense of self-authenticity. To be at one with ourselves, with our destiny. There are no proper words in English for "asha" and "ushta". We should therefore introduce those terms and concepts to the English language.
Ushta indeed

Ushta has been translated as Happiness or Bliss, but in the Ashem Vohou mantra we say that "Ushta is for the one who seeks the Highest Asha or Vahishtayi Ashem. So Ushta is not the kind of happiness that you can have if you lobotomize yourself in some kind of happiness that brings that glowing smile painted on the faces of mindless religious True Believers. What is your take on that; would you rather be stupid and happy or conscious and aware but not so happy?

  1. Bra Alexander , du har konverterat till sanningen, och sanningen finner man i zoroastrianismen och i den Heliga boken AVESTA. Må AHURA MAZDA välsigna dig

  3. I felt that it meant "Treaure", like a Pearl of Boundless Value, which is Precious Beyond Price, and More Beautiful than any earthly sight, and More Clear and Known than any other idea or thought or image. All with a sense of intimacy and personality to it. Like it is a person, a Great Person, like a Greater Self who is like a Greater Brother.

One must value this relationship with one's Better Mind, and this extends all the way up to the Best Mind.

One must value that and really put it first in life, or it will not be appreciated rightly.

That is why it next says, in Ashem Vohu prayer, that "Ushta Amai Hyat Ashai Vahistai Ashem" seeming to say that this Treasure is only kept for those who Really Value It, as if it were worthy in itself, and not for any other reason relate to it. It is the reason anything else is done, and also how, how much, with whom, and so forth... Real Religion.

So this Prayer is the VERY ESSENCE of religion, showing how important Ushta is, being chosen in this way for this prayer.

USHTA means SUPREME TREASURE of the SUBLIME TRUTH SPECIFICALLY IN RELATION TO A TRUE SPIRIT WHO TRULY VALUES THAT TREASURE IN AND OF ITSELF.
